A Thrilling Wednesday.

I am so enthused to write tonight’s blog. It was such a thrilling Wednesday. So many good things happened. And now I’m getting my hair colored, which is a very girl thing for me to say but I LOVE getting my hair colored. I’ll update with my celebrations tonight. I celebrated all three holidays quite well, if I do say so myself.

UPDATE: Today was a three holiday kind of day. I celebrated each one. Trail Mix Day. Eat Outside Day. Love Lawyers Day. And I had a smashingly great day to boot, so good of a day I made a list. And here it is…

1. You know those days when you wake up feeling strangely skinny? I had one of those mornings. It was a good start to the day.

2. I went to get my hair colored today. She did a great job. It’s not exactly as blonde as I wanted it to be, but it’s pretty.

3. Chelsie had a magical perfect interview this morning. Let’s hope that she gets that sweet job!!

4. I wore a fancy outfit to work today. My favorite black shirt and a cute skirt I got at Forever 21 and a red belt and pretty shoes.

5. There are three great holidays for the day.

6. Sean was the sweetest today.

7. I got to talk to my two friends that have been my friends since the 9th grade, Will and Andy. They made me laugh. I miss them.

8. I figured out interesting things on my Excel spreadsheet at work today.

9. Sean called me as I was walking to lunch. I met him at Xoco, a Rick Bayless restaurant (and you know how I feel about Mr. Bayless).

10. I met a guy that loves his job and his iPad.

11. I listened to John Mayer on Spotify today.

12. I had a Diet Coke.

As you can see, I had a happy little day. And I haven’t even gotten to the celebrations! Ok, for the celebrations.

We have a snack table at work. It has lots of treats. It has trail mix! I had some as my after lunch snack. It was delicious, but it had cashews and I loathe cashews. They are one of my least favorite nuts. But it was a celebration nonetheless.

Eat Outside Day and Love Lawyers Day went hand in hand. I got to eat at one of my most favorite places with one of my most favorite people, who happens to be in law school. We ate outside and it was delicious. We split a salad and a sandwich and I couldn’t have been happier.

And actually I ate outside twice today. I had brought my lunch to work, but didn’t eat it. Instead I ate with a cute boy. So before my hair appointment I sat at a table outside of Starbucks on State Street and did some serious people watching while I ate my chicken salad for dinner instead of lunch. It was delightful.

It was one of the greatest Wednesdays. I was so enthused about my completed celebrations.

Chicago is making me so so happy these days.

Frank N. Stein

How hilarious would it be if you knew a guy named Frank N. Stein? It would be the most hilarious! There is a website that you can type your name into and it will tell you how many people in the U.S. have your name. In case you were wondering, there’s only 8 Kate Beards. Naturally, I had to check for Frank Stein.

At least one of them has the middle initial 'N'.

I have never read the original Frankenstein; however, I watched a two hour documentary about it once. Mary Shelley was a crazy person. She was all dark and twisty and not in the endearing Meredith way on Grey’s Anatomy. I mean clearly not in the endearing way. Stories about rebuilt bodies aren’t usually endearing.

Anyway, I’m celebrating today by telling you about what I want to be for Halloween this year. Frankenstein is usually present on Halloween, so I figured this was fitting. The theme of our Halloween this year is 80s music videos. Which means I need the greatest 80s music video outfit. George Michael is making an appearance, maybe more than one. So I have to look awesome.

I’m thinking Madonna. Because she screams 80s and I can wear lace and look awesome. But I secretly want to go as one of the guys from Dexy’s Midnight Runners in the video Come on Eileen. They wear overalls with belts. It’s very fashion forward.

So please please please give me your 80s suggestions. I want this costume to be amazing. I want to win potential contests I might enter. I want to look awesome.

Other Halloween ideas I have/are what I’m going to be in the years to come include, Uncle Sam and the Statue of Liberty, Sloan and Ferris and Cameron. Feel free to add any other future suggestions as well.

Come on Eileen might be in my Top 10 favorite songs.

Low Sodium, High Awesome

First things first, I don’t watch Dancing with the Stars. However, I have for some reason accidentally caught the cast reveal for Dancing with the Stars for the past THREE years. I have not one time meant to watch it, but somehow I always see it.

It’s More Herbs, Less Salt Day (why I choose these days is beyond me. But celebrate I did. I have to start this day with a story, go figure. Last year at OU my dear sweet friend Jordan and I would go over to our friends Brett, Brian and Kurt’s house for dinner. They would make teriyaki burgers with grilled pineapple on top and Kurt would always make the greatest pasta salad of all time.

I love this pasta salad. So last week I asked him what secret concoction it was so that I could craft it here in Chicago. Turns out its just from a box and I found it at the Jewel down the street. I was thrilled. I made it last night. I ate it for dinner tonight. It’s very tangy and very fantastic. I added lemon juice, because I add lemon juice or lime juice to almost everything I eat. It’s my salt. Anyway, it was full of spiced/herbal goodness.

AND last night I made a large thing of chicken salad. It has and astronomical amount of dill. Mainly because I love dill with my whole heart. It also has cucumbers and grapes. It was fantastic. I had it for lunch today with Wheat Thins. I feel like it’s going to become a staple in my fridge. I also bought cilantro yesterday at the store. Cilantro is my favorite herb.

But I heard that some people have a strange aversion to cilantro. Are you this person? I need to know, what if I invited you to a cilantro dinner at my house and you hated it.

Planning a cilantro dinner party.

I dreamed a dream

…in time gone by. When hope was high and life worth living. Well, that’s from Les Mis and I haven’t exactly seen it or read it, but it’s Dream Day and that’s what I thought of.

But I will tell you about my dreams. My hopes and dreams and the regular weird dreams I have whilst sleeping. I assure you that my dreams whilst sleeping are much more hilarious than my hopes and dreams, but I’ll share both because I’m a sharer.

Sleep Dream: One time I dreamed that I was fighting monster alien dinosaurs. Imagine the weird robots from War of the Worlds, that really awful Tom Cruise movie. Now imagine the raptors from Jurassic Park. Now imagine the Monstar from Space Jam. The small red one that had Muggsy Bogues  skills. Put all of those together and that’s what I was fighting. However I was on a monorail and the monorail was in a field. Things were strange. It was the end of the world type situation. Analyze that please someone.

Hopes and Dreams: Someday when I’m married with children I want to have one dish that my children’s friends will say, “Oh man, so-and-so’s mom makes the best _______.” I haven’t found out what exactly my dish of fame will be, but I’m on my quest. I’m hoping that I find it soon so I have lots and lots of years to perfect it.

Sleep Dream: This was the scariest dream I’ve ever had. I had it when I was probably 6 years old. It’s one of those dreams that I couldn’t forget. The thing is, it’s not scary at all. But it was reoccurring. Two scientists were dressed in black looking out over a field. The man had a clipboard and a pen in his hand. The woman was holding nothing. A guy, that they didn’t see, crawled up next to them in the ditch and switched the pen in the guys hand. But this pen had super glue on it. So it stuck to the guy’s hand. I thought it was terrifying. It’s clearly not. Again, analyze away.

Hopes and Dreams: I want to live overseas. I’m not entirely sure where (that’s a lie, I want to live in England), but Europe as a whole would be fine. I don’t know the logistics that this would take. I’m quite happy here in Chicago/America and I have things that are keeping me here fairly permanently, but that’s why this is on the hopes and dreams list and not the logical and achievable list.

And now for Bow Tie Day. I think bow ties are great. They say, “Hey, I do know someone that knows how to tie this.” They are unusual and interesting and I like them. I’m going to attempt to tie the bow tie bow. I don’t have a bow tie to use, but I’ll attempt with a scarf.

Well, I attempted with a black sash that I tried to tie around a Texadelphia cup (I miss you so Norman). Turns out, it’s really difficult. I got one decent bow out of it, but my realization was that the instructions online are strange. They give you 8 or 9 steps when really they should give you about 20. They do magic tricks with the tie in between the shown steps. I think I did it, but I don’t have a bow tie so the shape was off and it was weird looking. I submit that Daniel Craig comes to my apartment and teaches me how to do this. I’m sure he learned how to tie one as part of a method acting preparation for being James Bond.

So that’s that. And praise the Lord, I finally found someone to color my hair here in Chicago. If you haven’t already heard of you should check it out. Stylists in training offer discounted prices if you come get your hair done for part of their training. $30 for high lights, I think I can handle that. So on Wednesday, my hair will cease to look like a trailer park hooker. My roots will be quelled underground for another 2 months. I’m just delighted.

My 6 year old self was a curious human.

Just Because

It’s Just Because Day and I did things just because today. First of all my celebration was acting 50 years old, just because. My day consisted of brunch, errands, a nap, making dinner and I’m getting ready to go to my most favorite place in all of Chicago.

Sean and I went to Bongo Room for brunch, just because it was Saturday and we could. And we had to meet Stan and Derrick.

We went to the Crate and Barrel Outlet. I needed coffee mugs and a few pint glasses. I bought a fancy mason jar. It’s for my milk and now my milk is fancy, just because. I highly suggest it. It makes me feel like I’m living in the 50s and have a milk man. Except it’s not the 50s and I’m the milk man.

I bought an apron, just because I needed one. It’s pretty and vintage and blue and lovely. I look like a 1950s kitchen advertisement when I wear it. I really need to be photographed wearing that apron and pouring milk out of my new fancy jar.

I took a really great nap, just because I could and also because I love naps.

I feel like I had the most adult day ever. Brunch, aprons, dishes, dinner making. I played house today. It was fun. And I got to do it just because. Just because it was Saturday and just because I could. I love days like today.

A fancy grown up, just because.

Hahaha, darling, of course I'll make the casserole for the church get together.

John and Katherine are always getting into the brownies.

Lucky Duck

Well, it’s Lucky You Day. I’m not entirely sure why I selected this day, because I’m sitting here not sure how to celebrate. I think I will celebrate tonight by just making everyone around me feel strangely awkward and saying, “Lucky You”, as often as possible. We will see. I love you dearly. Sorry this was short and lame.

Lucky you, at least I blogged a little.

Kiss and Make Up

Not this kind of Kiss or make-up.

Kiss. Make up. You get it don't you?

On this day of kissing and making up, not out… don’t get any ideas, I bring you the top 5, in my blogging opinion, romance reconciliations. These aren’t in any order. It’s just a list.

1. Dawson’s Creek: When Pacey buys Joey the wall.

If you loved Dawson’s Creek like I loved Dawson’s Creek, you would understand the implications of The Wall. It was the ultimate gesture. It was the ultimate ‘You Suck Dawson and I’m Stealing Your Woman’ move. No gift ever given will be better than The Wall. Especially because Pacey didn’t give The Wall to Joey because he wanted to win her, he gave it to her because he knew it would make her happy, and it did for the record. They end up eventually falling in love, after a thousand other scenes that could have made this list.

2. You’ve Got Mail: Don’t Cry Shopgirl

We’ve all seen You’ve Got Mail, and we all love it. If you don’t love it, you can leave. But that final scene in the park when his dog runs up and the tears and the kissing. It’s the best. Tom Hanks has been so sneaky the whole movie and Meg has been sad about her store and emotional. He wipes those tears and says, “Don’t cry Shopgirl. Don’t cry.” A FANTASTIC relationship reconciliation.

3. The Princess Bride: As You Wish

The volume is spotty, but worth it. This is directly after they hurl themselves down the hill. Wesley has been away for years, Buttercup is promised to an ass. Welsey returns, saves Buttercup from the Spaniard, the giant and the bald man. She doesn’t know it’s him. He uses the code words, “As you wish.” And then they love each other again. It’s fantastic. That terrifying head first tumble down the hill to follow your true love. I swoon. Consider that romance reconciled.

4. One Fine Day: The Final Scene

I can’t find the trailer. You should just watch the whole thing. It’s on Netflix.

All day long George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer hate each other. However, the last scene he comes over to her house and they finally, after one fine day, kiss. It’s precious. Especially because she wants to freshen up and he ends up falling asleep while she gets pretty. She snuggles up next to him and falls asleep with him. They are in love and all the terrible things that happened that day are forgotten. The reason this made the list is because I secretly, or not so secretly now, do that still. And I think that we all still do that. We all still get nervous when that boy we like comes over. We all make sure we look perfect, or as close as we can get after an entire day of work/school. We put on lip gloss, but not enough to interfere with a hello kiss. That’s what this scene made it on the reconciled love list. It just makes me so incredibly happy.

5. Friends: Ross and Rachel, The Last Episode

After 10 years of turmoil, we finally FINALLY see Ross and Rachel get together for good. We don’t have to worry about Ross marrying someone else. We don’t have to worry Rachel flaking out again. It’s the most romantic gesture. Ross chases her to the airport. Begs her not to go to Paris. She gets off the plane. Oh my lanta, it’s everyone’s favorite TV show couple finally figuring it out and finally figuring it out is the greatest. Believe me.

These 5 have kissed and made up… and probably out if we get real serious. I hope, that if need be you would buy someone a wall, confess that you are someone’s online lover, fall head first down a hill, fall asleep on the couch together or chase someone to the airport in order to show someone that they are the one.

Sometimes they just need to know.

Proud of that list.
